Hello, dear readers. Very often I get a question from you like this: is it possible to turn off Wi-Fi on the router, but at the same time, the device itself can function without sharing the Internet. Probably, someone may only need a network cable for work, while someone wants to distribute the Internet only to 2 computers/laptops via cable. Or maybe someone is afraid of router radiation, although whether router radiation is really harmful can be debated and debated. As a rule, the router has a button whose purpose is to disable the Wi-Fi module. This is done with just one click. But, unfortunately, it is not yet available on every model. On the TP LINK TL MR3220 this button is recessed into the body of the device so that it is not accidentally pressed unnecessarily. To press this button, you will probably need some kind of pointed object. To turn on the network, you need to press the button again.

If you have a router model for which the miracle button described above is not provided, you will have to disable the router through the router settings; you probably know how to enter them yourself. IN enter in the browser next address 192.168.1.1 (in some cases 192.168.0.1). Next, you need to enter a password and login, which can be viewed on the bottom panel of the device (by default they are set as admin and admin).

For Asus
On the main page you will immediately see an item called "Wireless LAN radio module", and next to it there are two switches - “on” and "off". Choose last, click “Apply”, after this Wi-Fi will not work.

For TP LINK
In menu item "Settings" you will need to go to the tab Wireless - Wireless Settings(in Russian Wireless mode - Wireless Settings). There you will see a check mark Enable Wireless Router Radio. Uncheck the box and save the settings.

Thus, we have looked at ways to disable Wi-Fi on the most common routers; if you use some other router, then probably the radio module on them can be disabled in the Wireless tab or with a special button.

Do you use the Internet only on a desktop computer and the question arises: how to disable Wi-Fi on a Rostelecom router or do you want to turn it on, on the contrary? To do this, you just need to change one setting in the hardware software.

Rostelecom routers

Before you proceed directly to setting up Wi-Fi on a Rostelecom router, you need to familiarize yourself with the range of models supported by the company. Internet from the largest Russian provider will be able to work correctly on most modern network equipment. However, the company recommends and provides its users with Upvel UR-315 BN, D-Link DIR 620 and NetGear JNR 3210-1NNRUS routers. The choice of these models is not accidental, since they contain all modern technologies that provide high access speeds, stability of operation, as well as the necessary degree of connection security. All settings, regardless of the model, will be the same; the only differences lie in the interface of each equipment manufacturer.

How to disable Wi-Fi on a Rostelecom router?

The reasons for deactivating a Wi-Fi connection may be individual for each user, however, only one way to do it is relevant. Before you disable Wi-Fi on your Rostelecom router, you will need to go into its settings by typing IP 192.168.0.1 in the address bar of any browser. The address for access specifically to your equipment model can be found in the instructions, which are necessarily included in the kit. For example, the router will be configured.

By typing the required IP (in our case 192.168.0.1), a window will open in the browser where you will be asked to enter a password and login. At factory settings the values will be admin, admin.

After confirming the entered values, the user will be taken to the home page of the software. Here you will need to find the “Advanced settings” item, located in the lower horizontal menu. In the third column in the window that opens, the Wi-Fi item will be available, and next to it there is a slider that needs to be switched to the “off” position, after which it will turn red, confirming deactivation.

Do not forget that all changes will take effect only after saving and rebooting the equipment. To do this, in the top horizontal menu you need to find an item with a light bulb, after hovering over it, a drop-down list will appear, where there will be a “Save” button.

How to enable wifi on a Rostelecom router?

If you have a question about how to enable Wi-Fi on a Rostelecom router, you will first need to read the previous paragraph. After completing the sequence of actions up to the point with the Wi-Fi slider, you need to move it to the “On” position. To change the options later, you will need to click on the “Basic settings” item in the same group. A new window will now open where you can enter:

  • desired wireless network name (SSID);
  • country;
  • channel(auto);
  • wireless mode (universal 802.11 B/G mixed is recommended, which is compatible with the maximum number of equipment);
  • maximum number of clients (0 – no restrictions).

Also duplicated here is the function of enabling and disabling the access point, due to the mark on which Wi-Fi may not work on the Rostelecom router, and there is the ability to hide the connection, prohibiting network scanning for signal receivers.

After filling out the specified fields, you will need to return to the previous menu and select “Security Settings”. Before proceeding to the final step and making the correct one, it is recommended to select WPA-PSK/WPA2-PSK mixed protection in the first drop-down list, and below you need to enter the desired password, which should consist of Arabic numbers and English letters. WPA settings can be left as default.

When editing parameters, be careful and do not forget to confirm the changes with the same key in the lower right part of the window, and also save the settings. As you can see, you can enable wifi on a Rostelecom router yourself without calling a specialist.

Why doesn’t the Rostelecom router distribute Internet via Wi-Fi?

The wireless connection has already been configured and connected to the device, but for some reason the Rostelecom router does not distribute the Internet via Wi-Fi and a yellow triangle is visible on the network icon? This problem can occur in two cases.

The first of them is the lack of access to the Internet due to the fault of the provider, which may be due to interruptions in the operation of server equipment. If Wi-Fi suddenly disappears on your Rostelecom router, it is recommended to call the 24-hour technical customer support line and inquire about the cause of the problem. Most likely, the administration already knows about the problem and will be able to tell you when it will be resolved.

The second case is a malfunction on the user’s equipment side. It is practically impossible for such a problem to arise suddenly. The reason may be a power outage or interference with the router settings. Power outages in some cases lead to equipment reset. To solve this problem, you will need to edit the wireless connection settings, as described above.

Before distributing Wi-Fi from a Rostelecom router, you may also need to re-enter the WAN settings, which can be found on the provider’s website or in the concluded contract. Using the D-Link DIR 600 model as an example, these parameters for the required connection will need to be entered in the menu, which is located in the advanced settings in the Network tab.

After filling in all the fields specified by the operator, do not forget to save the settings and reboot the device to activate them. After this, problems with the fact that the Rostelecom router does not distribute Internet via wifi should not arise.

How to strengthen the wifi signal on a Rostelecom router?

In apartment buildings with thick walls or private cottages, sometimes the wireless network signal level is low, which is why the Rostelecom router practically does not distribute the Internet via wifi. Such a problem may lie in the incorrect choice of equipment, which is simply not suitable for the size of the room, or in the incorrect location of the access point and its antennas. To improve communication in all corners of the apartment, the equipment is installed in central rooms, for example, the living room, and the antennas are directed at an angle of 45° in different directions (provided there are several of them). Also in the equipment settings you should select the 802.11 B/G mixed mode, which is the optimal speed standard. You also need to make sure that other equipment does not interfere with Wi-Fi.

If the option of remodeling an apartment with fewer walls does not appeal to you, there is another answer to the question of how to strengthen the wifi signal of a Rostelecom router. To do this, you will need to purchase an additional access point, which will need to be configured in signal repeater mode. It can be located in remote parts of the house, which will allow you to receive a high-quality signal over twice the area. Before purchasing additional equipment, you should make sure that the problem of a weak signal lies precisely in the large thickness of the walls and space, and not in the quality of the router itself.

conclusions

Settings such as turning Wi-Fi on and off on the Rostelecom router, as well as entering additional connection data with the provider, are performed from the control menu in the equipment software. Numerous parameters and visual cues allow you to configure the equipment to meet your requirements without resorting to the help of specialists. How often do you use the services of a specialist instead of personally solving a problem?

Hello. The title sounds kind of strange, doesn't it? It would seem, why turn off Wi-Fi on a Wi-Fi router, that’s why it’s a Wi-Fi router :). But not everything is so simple, different things happen, and even such advice should be on my website. In fact, after looking at the information, I noticed that requests like “How to turn off Wi-Fi on a router” there is, which means people need it and they are looking for it.

Or perhaps you don’t yet have any devices that connect via Wi-Fi, but you bought a Wi-Fi router and connected your computer via cable. In principle, you did the right thing, because sooner or later you will have such devices that will connect to the Internet via Wi-Fi. But until then, the Wi-Fi module can simply be turned off. There are many options.

I will write instructions on how to disable the Wi-Fi module on TP-Link routers, and more specifically, I have one. But even if you have, for example, a D-Link router, I think that this process is not very different. And if your Wi-Fi is already turned off, then this way you can turn it on.

Disable (enable) the Wi-Fi module on the TP-Link router

So let's get started.

At the time of setup, you need to connect the router to the computer via a network cable.

Go to the router settings. Open the browser and enter the address in the address bar 192.168.1.1 , then enter the username and password to access the router settings and click “Submit”.

Next, go to the “Wireless” tab. And if you need to disable the Wi-Fi module, then simply uncheck the box next to “Enable Wireless Router Radio”. If you need to enable it, check the box, it's simple :). To save the results, click the “Save” button. The changes will take effect after rebooting the router.

That's all friends actually are. As I promised, everything is very simple. I hope you find my advice useful. Good luck!

Wireless WiFi technology is a very convenient tool for accessing the Internet. But the wireless module, like any other device, requires power to operate, which reduces the laptop's operating time without recharging (from the battery). Because of this, the question arises of how to turn it off on a laptop to reduce power consumption.

Disabling the wireless adapter

It’s worth noting right away that there are several ways to disable the Wi-Fi module on a laptop:

  • Using a key combination on the laptop keyboard (Fn + button to turn on wireless modules).
  • In the hardware manager.
  • In the network control center.

Each of these methods does not replace each other. That is, for example, if you have disabled the adapter on your keyboard, you will no longer be able to enable it in Device Manager. In this case, the connection may remain active in the network control center, although in fact there will be no connection, and the module itself will be disabled. The bottom line is that you can turn on Wi-Fi only in the same way as you turned it off before. So, how do you turn off wireless on a laptop?

Physical shutdown on the keyboard

If you look closely at your keyboard, you will find the Fn key. This key allows you to activate additional functions of the laptop keyboard and, accordingly, use them. The top row of keys, the name of which begins with the letter “F,” combines those same additional capabilities. Each of them has a corresponding icon. For example, on the key for turning Wi-Fi on or off, an antenna with outgoing radio signals is drawn (sometimes a computer is drawn, with radio waves drawn on its sides).

If you press Fn and the key responsible for wireless modules at the same time, Wi-Fi will turn on. If you press these keys again, the adapters will turn off. This is the first way to disable WiFi. Remember that, as a rule, Bluetooth will also be disabled along with Wi-Fi, since in the vast majority of cases these two technologies are combined under one key.

Disabling the adapter through Device Manager

A wireless module is the same device as a video card, Bluetooth or sound card. Any of these modules can be disabled in Device Manager. To do this, let's launch the service we need. This can be done in different ways:

  • Through the properties of my computer (system).
  • Through system management.
  • Using the “Run” service and so on.

We will do this in the easiest and fastest way. Press two Windows keys + R at the same time. In the window that appears, write the following command: mmc devmgmt.msc and press “Ok” or “Enter”.

Now all we have to do is find the “Network Adapters” folder. We open it and find our WiFi module.

As a rule, laptops use motherboards from one of two manufacturers:

  • Broadcom.
  • Atheros.

There are other manufacturers, but, as a rule, the vast majority of laptops have boards from these companies installed. In any case, the name will contain the “802.11” technology standard. Find the required module and right-click on it. In the menu that appears, select “Disable”.

A warning window will appear. We agree with it and click “Yes” or “Ok”.

That's it, after this the Wi-Fi device will be completely turned off and de-energized. Now you can only turn it on in the same way. Right-click on it and select “Engage”.

Disabling communications in Network Sharing Center

To begin, click on the network icon in the system tray (desktop area in the lower right corner near the clock and date) with the right mouse button. Select “Network and Sharing Center...”.

In the window that opens, go to the “Changing adapter settings” section. We find the wireless network shortcut here. Right-click on it and select “Disable”.

Please note that the device will not turn off completely. Only the wireless connection will be disabled. You can use it back only in a similar way. However, you will not be able to activate it on the keyboard or in the device manager. As you can see, everything is very simple. Now let's look at how to disconnect a device from a WiFi network.

For example, you are connected to a wireless router, but want to disconnect from it without turning off the module. To do this, click on the corresponding icon in the system tray with the left mouse button.

Information about the current connection and a list of available connections will appear. Our task is to find a connection opposite which there is the inscription “Connected”. Click on it with LMB and click “Disable”.

If you just want to switch to another network, then just find it from the proposed list and left-click. Check the box “Connect automatically” and then click on “Connect”.

As you can see, everything is very simple. The main thing is not to rush and be careful. Now you know all the ways to manage wireless connections on a laptop. But remember that all these methods are not interconnected.

You can also use the command line to manage Wi-Fi networks and devices. Everything is simple here. To launch the command line, you just need to simultaneously press the Windows + R keys, write CMD in the window that appears and click “OK”.

Here is a set of commands and functions:

  • You can find out the list of available interfaces using the following command: netsh wlan show interface. Thus, we find out the name of all available Wi-Fi interfaces (modules).
  • To find out the list of available connections, enter the following command: netsh wlan show networks. In the proposed list you can find out the name of a particular connection.
  • Connecting to a Wi-Fi network: netsh wlan connect name=Network Name. For example, in my case the command looks like this: netsh wlan connect name=Asshole. Asshole is the name of my router.
  • To disconnect, write the following: netsh wlan disconnect.

Everything is quite simple. However, only experienced users use this control method, since remembering all the commands is quite difficult. But, if for some reason you cannot use other methods to disconnect your device from the wireless network, you can enter the netsh wlan disconnect command and press “Enter” and your laptop will disconnect from the router.
