It would be wrong to say that Studio Wildcard attracts its audience with the originality of the idea. The game “Beasts of Prey”, also about dinosaurs, was released as recently as 2014. Medium settings shamelessly drop FPS to a measly 20-30 on very impressive hardware. However, what you see without the risk of being eaten during the next lag is still capable of impressing.

Having looked down a little at the charms of the island, we’ll have to remember what we’re playing. The character will want to eat and drink. At first, your thirst can be quenched directly from the ocean. You will have to devote more time to the issue of food. First you will need to create a weapon by knocking down several trees and crushing a couple of stones with your bare hands. And then, in search of food, you can, for example, kill that cute dinosaur that we admired a few minutes ago.

And off we go... To cook the meat, you need to make a fire. To avoid being eaten, build a house. To prevent the house from being destroyed by other players, you will have to look for allies. Because in a Survival game, one is traditionally not a warrior. You will have time for all this, as before. If a character dies, it's a shame, but not critical. He will be reborn nearby. And perhaps he will even have time to run for things.

The world of ARK is brutal just enough to keep the player focused without going too far into insanity. And this is a definite plus. Is this realism when you constantly have to run from all sorts of wild animals and zombies? In such a reality, our ancestors could only evolve into multiple archaeological objects. Which, alas, there would be no one to dig up.

Pleasant gameplay, picturesque views and a user-friendly interface are all good, but not enough to win over an impressive audience for a long time. The developers from Wilcard understood this, and had a whole deck of surprises in store.

Craft lovers will be pleased. This is not Minecraft yet, but the abundance of hand-made crafts does not fit in with the fact that the game just came out in early access. Huge farms and menageries, fenced with a palisade. Real conveyors for the production of armor, weapons and drugs behind the fortified walls of factories, the entrance to which is hidden under water for safety. The highest rifle towers offer a beautiful view of half the island. These are not promises from developers, but real objects that individual clans of players have already built on servers. Impressive, isn't it?

Characters can be upgraded. There are already optimal builds and strong recommendations for beginners. For example, the first points should be invested not in combat skills, but in movement speed. Which indirectly confirms the well-known saying: “The best sport for self-defense is athletics.” As the level increases, new recipes are unlocked.

The degree of customization of clothing is colossal. In a raid of a top clan on a server, you can easily meet a knight in iridescent armor and a Wild West cowboy with a very, very long gun. In general, looking at all this, I just want to add an rpg ending to the characteristics of an MMO game. There are just not enough quests.

Those who love research will also be able to enjoy the game. The island keeps its secrets securely. There are six caves, the inhabitants of which drop amazing ingredients and great artifacts. True, getting to them will be very difficult. The further from the coast, the more dangerous the creatures become.

There is also something completely inexplicable in the game - three obelisks that look like traces of some extraterrestrial civilization. For now, their function is to teleport players from server to server. They will also help summon the epic boss, the Spider. She is, so far, the only one of her kind. But the developers promise that the secrets are not over yet.

Finally, there are many pleasant little things that will make you want to stay in the game for a while longer. Like any top free-to-play game, ARK: Survival Evolved is worth at least downloading and trying, even if you are not a fan of the genre. As mentioned above, the game is not without technical shortcomings, but it can easily compete with any genre analogue on mobile platforms.
